Almost Reading

Babbling.
This is something that I teach in my Language Development course - the process in which infants learn to vocalize and articulate sounds, but are not quite able to produce real words. Parents often enjoy listening to those sweet consonant-vowel combinations that their babies produce... but really they are waiting expectantly for the FIRST word.  They are "almost talking" - the sounds are there, but the meaning is missing. I am one of those parents - I have been looking for the first sign of a "real word". And we are still waiting for that first real word (although he is using baby signs often).

What I was not expecting was to catch Jacob "almost reading". This is one that I have yet to read about in the child development books ;-)
